“These young people came alongside our award-winning chorus and members and made our programs work on a real River Boat. There young people acted as guides, hosts, and even delivered shore side programs of interest to our guests.”

“Hi, I’m Matthew Riegg and I’ve worked with Rivers of Life Center and its predecessor Earth Crusaders since I was 15. Now I’m 24, and I was the office and program administrator helping with grants, recruitment, and supervision of youth where I learned a lot. Working with youth, including myself, learning the ins and outs of Tourism Guiding and Hosting, and environmental landscaping. This program prepared me for many life challenges, and for that I am thankful.”
What a crew leader says,
“I love working with these young people. I was young once too. I can share, council, and provide insight for these kids just starting to get into the work force and make something for themselves. Its tough work, and it can beat you up, but you usually come out better from it.”
From Joshua:
“Rivers of Life Center gave me opportunities to use my interest in history to become a real tour guide. Our many tours on the Portland Spirit and on real tour buses gave me a chance to show my stuff.”
Tim says,
“I was tasked with writing the entire script and timeline for exploring Oregon City. I had to plan the routes of the buses and the timing of the vessel, ‘Willamette Star’. 2,000 people participated in the effort I helped design.”
Gabriel says,
“Working for Rivers has been a learning experience in all points of work ethic and practice. The skills I’ve been taught and made to hone are not limited only to landscape work in the field but now experience in the office as I type grants and handle things like payroll. I’d like to think I’ve become a capable assistant and administrator.”
